Our History

EnviroIndustry Gold Coast (formerly called GREIA - Gold Coast Region and Environment Industry Association) was officially launched on World Environment Day, 5 June, 2003, for the purpose of representing the interests of businesses in the Gold Coast region supplying environmental goods and services.

The formation of EnviroIndustry Gold Coast (GREIA) represented the culmination of more than two years work by Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) and numerous industry representatives.

In 2001 GCCC, through its Regional Economic Development Advisory Council (REDAC), now referred to as the Economic Development Advisory Council, established the Environment Industry Working Party under the chairmanship of Councillor Peter Young. The Gold Coast Environment Industry Working Party was formed to discuss the results of the Environment Industry Scoping Study Commissioned by Council.

On 9 December, 2002, the Environment Industry Working Party appointed the members of the Environment Industry Association Steering Committee to oversee the formation of Enviro Industry Gold Coast (GREIA) within a six-month period.

On 30 January, 2003, the steering committee resolved that EnviroIndustry Gold Coast (GREIA) incorporated under the provisions of the Associations Incorporation Act 1981.

The association has continued to grow since this time, working closely with GCCC to deliver outcomes including regular informative events and consultative sessions and multiple export and trade missions to China.

More recently in March 2008, GREIA was officially renamed EnviroIndustry Gold Coast and relaunched.
